Report: e-commerce Italy 2020
Based on the data published by Osservatorio B2C del Politecnico di Milano.The shopping online growth is increasing significantly, indeed the growth
rate from 2016 to 2020 is about 138% and in terms of value is about 13,5 billion of euro, 4,7 billion of euro more compared to 2019. The increase of online purchases remains pretty constant each year , about 25%, and it is expected to maintain the same trend for the next few years.
The industry that have better performed have been food&grocery 2,5 billion of euro (+56%), furniture and home living 2,3 billion of euro (+30%), IT and electronic products 6 billion of euro (+18%), apparel and accessories 3,9 billion of euro (+21%) and publishing industry 1,2 billion of euro (+16%).
Covid19 pandemic accelerated the change that was already in progress for a while and it is going to continue over time as ever.
This change made consumers more inclined to experience shopping online even in a conservative country like the Italian one, and it is a great opportunity now for those companies who would like to gain a position in the Italian market as it is still an early stage.
